Who is responsible for your information?
Music Lessons Ireland is operated by Jack Duignan. Jack is the data controller for personal information collected through this website and in connection with lessons.
To make a privacy request, use the contact form and write “Privacy request” in the optional notes. Please do not add more personal information than is needed.
What information is collected?
Depending on how you use the service, this may include:
- Your name and the prospective student's name.
- Email address, phone number and preferred contact method.
- Student age or date of birth, instrument interest, structured availability and information you choose to add about musical interests or experience.
- Optional learning, accessibility or communication information where you actively consent to its use for supporting the student's lessons.
- Lesson bookings, attendance, learning plans, practice guidance and progress records for continuing students.
- Limited technical and security information needed to operate the website and protect staff-only areas.
- Limited, pseudonymous website-journey events and campaign labels used to understand whether the free-trial path is working.
Share only what would practically help make lessons comfortable, accessible or enjoyable. Detailed diagnoses, safeguarding information and payment information should not be added to the signup form.
Why is it used?
- To respond to a trial request and arrange a lesson: steps requested before entering a lesson agreement.
- To provide ongoing lessons and the Student Toolbox: performance of the lesson agreement.
- To use optional accessibility or learning information: your explicit consent, which may be withdrawn.
- To administer enquiries, keep the service secure and maintain appropriate records: legitimate interests in running a safe, reliable teaching service.
- To meet tax, accounting, consumer or other legal duties: compliance with legal obligations where applicable.
Essential communication permission allows replies about lessons and enrolment. Optional marketing and accessibility information have separate consent choices and are not assumed from that permission.
Children and parents
Lessons are often requested by a parent or guardian for a child. The parent or guardian should submit the enquiry and provide only the information reasonably needed to arrange and deliver lessons. Student information is used for teaching and administration, not advertising.
Who receives the information?
Information is accessible only where needed by Jack and authorised people helping to administer enquiries or lessons. It may also be processed by carefully selected service providers used for secure hosting, database storage, Zoom lessons and the contact method you choose, such as email, telephone, SMS or WhatsApp.
Personal information is not sold. Where a provider processes information outside the European Economic Area, an appropriate legal transfer mechanism is required.
How long is information kept?
Enquiries that do not become students are normally reviewed for deletion or anonymisation within 12 months of the last meaningful contact. Records for continuing students are kept while lessons are being provided and afterwards only for as long as reasonably needed for teaching administration, safeguarding, accounting, legal claims or another legal obligation.
Some records may need different periods. Information is deleted or anonymised when there is no longer a valid reason to keep it.
Cookies and measurement
The website records a small set of first-party journey events—such as visiting the homepage, opening or starting the trial form and submitting a request—using a random pseudonymous identifier kept for the browser session. Campaign labels and the referring website's host name may also be recorded. These first-party records help Jack understand whether the enquiry path is working.
Where optional advertising measurement is configured, it is loaded only after you choose “Allow measurement”. It may tell an advertising or analytics provider that a page was viewed or a free-trial request was completed so campaign performance can be understood. Names, contact details, form notes and Student Toolbox information are not included in those optional events. Choosing “No thanks” does not affect the website or the trial request.
To limit automated abuse, the service temporarily counts requests using an hourly rotating, one-way fingerprint; the raw network address and browser description are not stored in that counter. Essential authentication cookies may be used in staff-only areas.
Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability or object to certain uses of your information. You may also withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis, without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Identity may need to be confirmed before a request is completed. You also have the right to complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission.
Changes to this notice
This policy will be reviewed when the website, teaching service or use of personal information changes. The current revision date is shown at the top of the page.
